On 1 July 2026, military hospitals and the Army Share Fund Hospital began procuring medicine through the digital system of the National Central Authority for Health Procurement. At present, more than 100 orders have been placed.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Thanasis Davakis, stated on this issue:

"An important management issue that the Armed Forces were facing until yesterday was that they would procure medicine without the discounts, cashbacks, and other benefits that the National Central Authority for Health Procurement ensures, through the unified management of orders and the economies of scale that it achieves.

In other words, the Armed Forces would procure more expensive medicine, make delayed payments to the suppliers, and occupy personnel for the management of the high volume of orders placed by our military hospitals, the Army Share Fund Hospital, and the rest of the military medical system services.

In order to rectify this situation, in October 2025 we began a systematic effort to rationalise, modernise, and simplify the medicine procurement process of the Armed Forces.

In this framework, on 15 May 2026, by law 5302/26 (articles 19 to 24), we incorporated the military hospitals, the Army Share Fund Hospital, and all other medical services of the Armed Forces into the National Central Authority for Health Procurement, with 30 June 2026 being the deadline for the completion of the necessary systemic actions for their incorporation into the relevant e-system.

So, a few days ago, this reform effort was successfully completed, since the Armed Forces can place e-orders through the National Central Authority for Health Procurement, as of July 1st. As of today, more than 100 orders have been placed.

I would like to thank the commands of the military hospitals, the working group, the management and personnel of the National Central Authority for Health Procurement, who worked systematically all this time, in order to achieve this significant reform, which saves funds and human resources to the benefit of our Armed Forces and their personnel".
