Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised long-term client Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) on its investment in up to 40 Airbus widebody aircraft - the largest investment in SAS' history.
The transaction includes a firm order for 18 new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft as part of a wider investment programme expected to cover up to 40 aircraft. SAS estimates the overall value of the project, at list prices, to be in excess of US$10 billion.
The initiative forms part of SAS's long-term strategy to modernise its fleet and support more efficient and sustainable operations.
The new aircraft are intended to support the airline's international network and the development of its long-haul operations from its Copenhagen hub, enabling additional capacity and route development. The A330-900neo platform is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and incorporates improvements in fuel efficiency, emissions performance and onboard passenger experience.
The project follows on from SAS' 2025 order for 55 Embraer E195-E2 regional aircraft on which Norton Rose Fulbright also advised SAS.
The core team was led by partner Owen Mulholland and included partner Will Alete and counsel Louise Auty.
Owen Mulholland commented:
"We are delighted to have supported the SAS team on the next exciting stage of its fleet modernisation. As long term adviser to SAS we were able to draw upon our deep understanding of SAS' business and our market-leading experience of advising on new aircraft orders to advise SAS on all aspects of the project."
