President Steenkamp: Do the next right thing

Children's television presenter Fred Rogers said there were three ways to ultimate success. The first way is to be kind. So is the second and the third.

That was the heart of my address to graduates last week - that when you're faced with a choice, choose the next right thing, even if you don't know the outcome yet.

In this uncertain and often divided world, the problems before us can feel overwhelming, and we certainly can't solve them all at once or all alone. But if we make the deliberate choice to take the next step, to act with integrity and to choose kindness - for ourselves, for others and for the world - suddenly, what once felt insurmountable becomes more manageable.
