The Chief of Defence Staff of the Kingdom of Netherlands paid a visit to Romania



The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, met, in Bucharest, with the Chief of Defence Staff of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, General Onno Eichelsheim, who paid an official visit to the capital city and several military facilities in Romania, over December 8th-10th, 2025.


The visit took place in the context of the enhanced bilateral military dialogue and the joint assessment of the security situation in the Black Sea region.

During the visit, the Dutch delegation participated in official meetings and discussions focused on cooperation within NATO, briefings and operational field visits, including at the 71st "General Emanoil Ionescu" Air Base in Câmpia Turzii and the 86th "Lieutenant Aviator Gheorghe Mociorniță" Air Base in Borcea.



"General Eichelsheim's visit reconfirms the Netherlands' solid commitment to the security of the eastern flank and enhances the excellent cooperation between our armed forces. Romania and the Kingdom of the Netherlands are strong allies, united by the same values ​​and the same determination to act jointly for Euro-Atlantic security," General Gheorghiță Vlad, Chief of Defence Staff, said.

In his turn, General Onno Eichelsheim emphasized the high level of bilateral cooperation: "Romanian and Dutch militaries act shoulder to shoulder in NATO missions, exercises and structures. This visit strengthens our relationship and common support for a robust defensive posture in the region."


The Kingdom of the Netherlands remains a strategic partner of Romania, which significantly contributes to enhancing regional security by participating in joint exercises, such as DACIAN SHIELD 25. The deployment of the Dutch military personnel in Romania supports the increase of interoperability and the strengthening of NATO's defence posture on the eastern flank.


The official visit contributes to the enhancement and consolidation of the military cooperation relation between Romania and the Kingdom of the Netherlands and reaffirms our country's role as a pillar of stability and security.
