Evansville, Ind. - April 6, 2026 - Mayor Stephanie Terry along with the Public Works Division, today announced a two-week, citywide pothole repair and street marking blitz to accelerate the repair of roadway damage caused by winter weather conditions.
The pothole repair blitz will take place from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10, during which the Street Maintenance crews will mobilize across the city to repair more than 1,000 potholes. The street marking blitz will follow from Monday, April 13 through Friday, April 17, when traffic engineering crews will repaint stop bars and directional arrows at intersections with higher-than-average accident rates, refreshing approximately ten intersections.
Since January 1, Street Maintenance has repaired more than 5,600 potholes across the city, focusing on high-traffic corridors and other priority areas affected by winter weather. Street marking repairs are just beginning, as pavement temperatures must reach a minimum threshold before crews can apply markings.
"Maintaining safe roadways is a fundamental responsibility of the City of Evansville," said Mayor Stephanie Terry. "This pothole and street marking blitz represents a focused and coordinated effort by our Public Works Division to keep our roadways safe, protect vehicles, and ensure smoother travel as temperatures rise. We thank residents for their patience while our crews work diligently to make these essential repairs."
Potholes tend to increase during the winter months as fluctuating temperatures cause water to seep into cracks in the pavement, freeze, and expand, weakening the road surface and leading to deterioration. Road markings also fade more quickly during this time due to exposure to snowplows, road salt, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which wear down striping and reduce visibility.
