MEREDA has released its 20th edition of The MEREDA Index. As a key economic indicator for Maine, the MEREDA Index measures the pulse of the state's real estate industry and is the leading way our industry tracks changes in Maine's real estate markets. The MEREDA Index is a composite of nine seasonally adjusted measures reflecting both new development and transactions involving existing properties and it covers both the commercial and residential markets statewide. This most recent edition covers the Index through the fourth quarter of 2025 and shows a decrease of 3.7%1 between 2024 and 2025. The MEREDA Index was tabulated by economist Dr. Charles Colgan.
The story of real estate in Maine in 2025 was mixed, but overall downward trending. There downturn was primarily in the commercial real estate index, although this is the most volatile part of index. The residential real estate showed modest growth, while construction employment was largely unchanged.
