EU HOMs UN prepare for important upcoming FAO and WFP meetings

Since 35 years, the European Union is a Member Organization of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), alongside the EU Member States.

Food security, agricultural trade and standards, One health, bioeconomy, sustainable agrifood systems and addressing the root causes of food crises in the world are all subjects on which the EU has common views and common policies.

The EU budget is also the most important voluntary contributor to FAO.

To ensure an efficient and coherent presentation of our positions at FAO, EU Heads of Missions meet regularly at Villa Europa. On 5 June, Ambassador Martin Selmayr held an EU Heads of Missions meeting to discuss the leadership renewal at FAO, which is of strategic interest to the EU. Also the main items were prepared for the 181st Session of the FAO Council that will take place from 8 to 12 June and for the Annual session of the WFP Executive Board, from 22 to 26 June.

The EU is strongly committed to multilateralism as the key tool for promoting peace, sustainable development and trade in the world. We are and will continue to be a reliable and predictable partner of the United Nations and the UN Organisations in Rome.
