2026 MIPS Performance Year Exception Application Now Open

CMS is now accepting exception applications for the 2026 Merit-based Incentive Payment System performance year. Clinicians affected by circumstances beyond their control, such as natural disasters, public health emergencies, or cyberattacks, may be eligible for a MIPS exception and reweighting of performance categories.

APMA encourages members participating in the MIPS 2026 performance year to review the requirements and submit an application if their ability to participate in MIPS has been significantly impacted. The deadline to submit any exception application for one or all performance categories is December 31 at 8 p.m. ET.

Members can find all 2026 MIPS Performance Year resources at https://www.apma.org/MIPS2026. For members requiring one-on-one support, such as individualized measure, activity selection and/or personalized planning for your practice's participation with the MIPS program, we strongly recommend you work with our partner Darena Health, the creator of the MyMipsScore app. Learn more information about Darena's assistance services at https://darena.health/mymipsscore/apma-members.
