Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education recognizes the program's substantial compliance with all four accreditation standards

Frostburg State University's baccalaureate degree program in nursing has earned 10 years of accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), extending the program's accreditation through Dec. 31, 2036.

"This 10-year accreditation is a significant achievement and a testament to the excellence of our nursing program and the dedication of our faculty, staff and students," said FSU President Dr. Shadow JQ Robinson. "Frostburg State University is proud to prepare compassionate, highly skilled nursing professionals who will make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our region and beyond."

The CCNE Board of Commissioners approved the accreditation action at its Sept. 29-Oct. 2, 2026, meeting. The accreditation is effective April 8, 2026, the first day of the program's recent CCNE on-site evaluation.

In its decision, the Board determined that FSU's baccalaureate nursing program substantially complies with all four CCNE accreditation standards and identified no compliance concerns regarding the standards' key elements. The review was conducted using the CCNE Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (2024).

"Achieving the full 10-year accreditation is a tremendous affirmation of the quality, rigor, and continued growth of Frostburg State University's undergraduate nursing program," said Dr. Kara Platt, chair and professor in FSU's Department of Nursing. "This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our faculty and staff, the commitment of our clinical and community partners, and our shared investment in preparing highly skilled, compassionate nurses. We are proud of this recognition and remain committed to advancing nursing education and preparing graduates who will make a meaningful difference in the communities they serve."

The 10-year accreditation term reflects the program's commitment to maintaining quality in nursing education and meeting established standards for baccalaureate nursing programs.

As part of the accreditation process, FSU will submit a continuous improvement progress report to CCNE by Dec. 1, 2031, demonstrating the program's continued substantial compliance with the standards and key elements in effect at the time of submission. The program's next on-site evaluation is expected in spring 2036.

"This accreditation reflects the hard work and high standards that define nursing education at Frostburg State. I'm proud of our nursing faculty, staff, and students for this achievement," said Interim Dean of the College of Education, Behavioral and Health Professions Dr. Yum Nguyen. "It strengthens our ability to attract and support students who will go on to serve patients and communities across the region, and it positions the program for continued excellence in the years ahead."

CCNE is an autonomous accrediting agency that contributes to the improvement of the public's health by ensuring the quality and integrity of baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs. CCNE accreditation supports the continued development of nursing education and promotes excellence in preparing the next generation of nursing professionals.
