Vision To Reinvent The Advisor Experience With Best-In-Class Software For Trading, Reporting, Financial Planning, Portfolio Management And Client Engagement
BERWYN, Pa., Sept. 8, 2025/PRNewswire/ -- Envestnet today, during the Future Proof Festival, unveiled its five-year strategic vision, designed to transform the advisor experience and solidify its role as the leading adaptive wealthtech platform for broker-dealers, RIAs and institutional partners. Over the next five years, the company plans to invest $1 billionin research and development to bring this vision to life; equipping advisors with advanced, integrated and configurable tools for all their workflows from trading, reporting, financial planning, portfolio management, client engagement and more.
Backed by the recent acquisition by Bain Capital, Envestnet's roadmap signals a strong continued focus: toward critical areas of platform unification, enhanced Unified Managed Account (UMA) infrastructure, flexible household modeling, the integration of multiple investment types, and expanded tools to help advisors deepen and expand client relationships.
"This moment marks a redefinition of who we are - and where we're going," said Chris Todd, Chief Executive Officer of Envestnet. "Advisors are telling us they want to consolidate with fewer partners, deepen integrations, and leverage better wealthtech that helps them expand their business, especially to serve the HNW market. This roadmap delivers that - not in pieces, but as a fully connected solution, and one in which we've dedicated significant resources to in terms of software and product development, and its delivery."
Rethinking the Infrastructure of Advice
Research1 shows that as an investor's wealth increases, the top reason they choose to work with a financial advisor shifts from Retirement Planning to Investment Management, with nearly half of HNW and UHNW investors citing investment management as the number one reason they work with an advisor, prioritizing asset growth and optimization as they feel more comfortable in their wealth level.
As HNW investors control a growing share of U.S. wealth, Envestnet research shows they prefer more complex technology and comprehensive offerings - such as custom allocations, multi-manager accounts funds, alternative investments and tax overlay solutions2. Additionally, as a client's wealth increases, investors value tax efficiency and access to institutional grade investments as one of the most valuable benefits of using a financial advisor. Yet, most advisors still operate on fragmented, legacy systems ill-suited to offer the products and services that meet the evolving needs of investors and especially HNW investors.
Alternative investments play a significant role in Envestnet's five-year plan and are another opportunity for the company to strengthen its relationship with advisors who serve high-net-wealth investors. According to Cerulli and Boston Consulting Group analysis, in 2024, approximately 8.5% of HNW investors' portfolios were allocated to alternatives, compared to 3% of affluent investors' portfolios. Envestnet seeks to democratize access to alternative investments for advisors and their clients by enhancing capabilities to hold alternative assets on platform and improving reporting capabilities.
Envestnet will be previewing roadmap initiatives and engaging with platform users and partners throughout the Future Proof Festival, showcasing the adaptive wealth technology that can help advisors transform their guidance, and scale their practice to better meet the needs of their business, and their clients.
2025/2026 Focus Areas and Priorities
Advisor-Traded Sleeve Innovation
Envestnet also continues to modernize portfolio management, reporting, and trading for advisors. By the end of the year, a unified managed account (UMA) will be able to support an advisor model sleeve created and traded by an advisor or sponsor trader. The capability for advisors to trade what they want in sleeves they create within UMAs can drive significant growth by converting advisor-as-portfolio-manager assets into UMA assets. The advisor traded sleeve offers another tool for alternatives in that it can capture off-platform assets such as private market placements or structured notes purchased on a third-party marketplace such as iCapital or CAIS within a dedicated sleeve within a single registration. This adds to Envestnet's deep structured product integration with iCapital which incorporates these products in its proposal system.
"With clients expecting more from advisors than ever before, Envestnet is delivering the technology and infrastructure that help firms scale efficiently while deepening client relationships," said Molly Weiss, Group President of Wealth Management Platform for Envestnet. "Our decades of experience, combined with a unified strategic roadmap, ensure advisors have fully configurable tools-from planning and trading to reporting and managed accounts-that unlock growth today while building the smarter, more connected financial future they and their clients deserve."
