FEMA Delivers More than $7.7 Million to Help Fire Departments and Other First Responder Organizations in Region 8

DENVER - This week, FEMA awarded nearly $7.7 million in grant funding for fire departments and other first responder organizations in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. FEMA disburses this money to support firefighters and other emergency personnel because they are often the first ones on the scene when disaster strikes. They play an essential role in keeping American communities safe. By empowering these emergency responders to strengthen and expand their capacity, FEMA is contributing to the nation's overall resilience.

FEMA is administering these funds through its three Fiscal Year 2025 fire grant programs: the Assistance to Firefighters Grants, Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program, and Fire Prevention and Safety grant program. FEMA published the funding opportunities in May 2026, making $648 million available across all three programs. Over the next week, FEMA will continue awarding these funds directly to fire departments, first responder agencies, and other organizations focused on fire prevention and firefighter safety.

The funding announced today includes nearly $5.6 million under FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grants for five states. Recipients can use this money to outfit responders with compliant personal protective equipment, acquire emergency response vehicles, and develop health, wellness, and resiliency initiatives to prepare responders for incidents. The awards announced today include:

Colorado

• More than $900,000 to the Mountain View Fire Protection District in Niwot, Colorado
• More than $330,000 to the Windsor Severance Fire Protection District in Windsor, Colorado
• More than $260,000 to the City of Greeley in Colorado
• More than $129,000 to the Black Forest Fire Rescue Protection District in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Montana

• More than $220,000 to Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana
• More than $150,000 to the Trout Creek Rural Fire District in Trout Creek, Montana
• More than $100,000 to the Town of Stevensville in Montana
• More than $85,000 to the City of Bozeman in Montana
• More than $17,000 to the East Missoula Rural Fire Department in Missoula, Montana
• More than $5,700 to the Bad Rock Rural Fire District in Columbia Falls, Montana

North Dakota

• More than $470,000 to the Harwood Area Fire and Rescue, Inc in Harwood, North Dakota
• More than $370,000 to the North Dakota Firefighter's Association in Bismarck, North Dakota
• More than $300,000 to the Steele Volunteer Fire District in Steele, North Dakota
• More than $150,000 to the City of Wolford in North Dakota
• More than $130,000 to the Belfield Volunteer Fire Department in Belfield, North Dakota
• More than $120,000 to the Kathryn Fire Department in Kathryn, North Dakota

South Dakota

• More than $285,000 to the Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department in Ludlow, South Dakota
• More $62,000 to the Alcester Fire Department in Alcester, South Dakota
• More than $19,000 to the North Sioux City Volunteer Fire Department in North Sioux City, South Dakota

Utah

• More than $740,000 to the City of Kanab in Utah
• More than $410,000 to Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah
• More $190,000 to the Big Water Municipal Corporation in Big Water, Utah
• More than $50,000 to the North Fork Special Service District in Sundance, Utah
• More than $36,000 to the Town of Brian Head in Utah

FEMA also awarded more than $1.8 million under its Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program. Recipients can use the money to cover personnel costs for firefighters, as well as recruitment efforts and retention programs. Awards announced today include:

• More than $800,000 to the Yoder Fire Protection District 5A in Yoder, Wyoming
• More than $700,000 to the Elizabeth Fire Protection District in Elizabeth, Colorado
• More than $320,000 to the volunteer fire department in Mineral County, Montana

FEMA also awarded more than $280,000 to the City of Draper in Utah under its Fire Prevention and Safety grant program. The recipient can use the money to fund scientific research and technology development that will strengthen community fire prevention programs and/or improve firefighter safety, health and well-being.
