Last week, a large number of dead fish, primarily catfish, on Lake Hudson was likely caused by a combination of spawning activity and recent floodgate operations at Pensacola Dam.
These conclusions come from the Grand River Dam Authority's (GRDA) Ecosystems and Watershed Management Department, which began investigating after reports were received earlier in the week.
"None of the water quality parameters we routinely monitor are outside normal ranges," said GRDA Spokesman Justin Alberty.
Investigators believe recent floodgate operations undertaken to manage heavy water inflows into the Grand River System may have contributed to changes during this critical spawning period.
Dead fish were mainly observed below Pensacola Dam, along the Grand River channel, and extending into the northern areas of Lake Hudson.
