The Elgin Fringe Festival returns Sept. 25-28, bringing four days of dance, theater, comedy, music and experimental performances to downtown.
Audiences can experience shows in intimate, walkable venues, including cafes, pubs, galleries and storefronts. Designed to celebrate the unexpected, Elgin Fringe offers something new at every turn.
Unlike most festivals, the Elgin Fringe Festival is uncurated. Artists are selected through a lottery system, ensuring a wide range of voices and ideas. All ticket sales go directly to the performers, giving them a platform to share their work while embracing the festival's notion of "Whatever happens, happens."
The Fringe movement began in 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has grown to more than 20 festivals in the United States and many more around the world. Elgin is part of World Fringe, the U.S. Association of Fringe Festivals and the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals.
