AUC Chairperson addressed the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the #Palestinian People

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. @ymahmoudali, this afternoon addressed the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the #Palestinian People held at the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa.

He noted that the African Union stands firm in its historic and principled support for the inalienable rights, dignity, and quest for freedom of the Palestinian people."

He stressed that the catastrophic war in Gaza is a stark reminder that "solidarity is not symbolic; it is a moral imperative." He added that "silence and inaction cannot be our legacy."

The Chairperson reaffirmed "the right of the Palestinian people to an independent, sovereign State with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in peace and security."
He further noted that the African Union welcomes the 2025 Sharm El-Sheikh Gaza Ceasefire Agreement and calls for "renewed negotiations, humanitarian access, accountability, and full respect for international law."
