Quadruples UK office footprint with new site, plans to double team, scales Lakebase and Genie adoption, and invests in AI talent and training
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - MARCH 31, 2026 - Databricks, the Data and AI company, today announced plans to invest more than $850 million USD in the UK over the next three years, significantly expanding its presence. This investment will help attract top AI talent, train the next generation of business leaders in data and AI, and meet rising demand for Lakebase, Databricks' serverless Postgres database built for AI agents, and Genie, Databricks' AI agent that lets any employee chat with their data and get trusted answers instantly.
As part of this commitment, Databricks will quadruple its London office footprint with a new 137,000-square-foot headquarters. This state-of-the-art office will act as the company's new EMEA hub, supporting its continued growth across the region and strengthening partnerships with local customers, which include over 50% of the FTSE 100 Index. This expansion comes as the UK cements its position as Europe's leading AI hub, where companies plan to increase AI investment by an average of 40% over the next two years, with Databricks and its customers helping drive this growth across the region.
Expanded office footprint
Databricks' new London office will accommodate its growing UK and Ireland team of over 500 people, which is expected to surpass over 1,000 people over the next few years. This new space will have a dedicated executive briefing center to host partners and customers with training and learning events. It will also support the growth of a local R&D team, alongside other key EMEA engineering locations such as Amsterdam, Berlin and Belgrade. Strategically located in Fitzrovia, this expanded space continues to place Databricks at the heart of the UK data and AI ecosystem, strengthening partnerships with many customers in the region, including Unilever, Rolls Royce, Nationwide, Virgin Atlantic, Department for Education, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Octopus Energy and Flo Health.
Training 100,000 people across UK and Ireland in data and AI
This news builds on Databricks' plans to train 100,000 people across the UK and Ireland with data and AI skills by 2028. This includes partnerships with key UK and Irish universities such as London School of Economics and University College Dublin as part of its University Alliance Program, and its investment of $10 million in the UK and Europe to provide everyone - students, hobbyists, and aspiring professionals - with free access to the Databricks platform.
