The National Hurricane Center forecasts Tropical Depression Five will make landfall in Southeast Texas tomorrow, bringing with it 2-4" of heavy rainfall, localized flash flooding and sustained winds of up to 35 mph.

HOUSTON - August 31, 2026 - In response to a Tropical Depression forecast to arrive in the Greater Houston area Tuesday morning, CenterPoint Energy continues taking actions to prepare for possible impacts of the storm system on its customers. Key preparedness actions include mobilizing 2,700 frontline personnel, activating its Emergency Operations Center, and coordinating closely with local officials and emergency response partners, among other critical actions.
"Our CenterPoint team is on the ground and taking action to prepare for the Tropical Depression, including mobilizing 2,700 frontline personnel positioned across the area to respond safely and as quickly as possible to storm impacts for our customers. As our preparations continue, we urge customers to enroll in Power Alert Service® to receive important updates about their service," said Nathan Brownell, CenterPoint Energy's Vice President of Resilience & Capital Delivery and Incident Commander.
Based on current weather forecasts, the National Hurricane Center predicts Tropical Depression Five will start impacting the Southeast Texas coastline early Tuesday morning. Impacts include the potential for sustained winds of up to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph across the Greater Houston area and rain totals of two to four inches with possible localized flash flooding.
To prepare for the impact of Tropical Depression Five, CenterPoint is urging all customers to immediately enroll in Power Alert Service® to receive important updates about their gas and electric service via text, email or phone calls, including service outages and estimated restoration times.
