MPD looks to ensure everyone’s safety during Saturday’s 'No Kings' march, rally

MADISON, Wis. - The Madison Police Department is preparing for large crowds downtown during Saturday's "No Kings" protest.

Our Special Events Team (SET) will be working. This team receives additional training for assisting with large crowds.

The "No Kings" march is scheduled to start at Brittingham Park at 12:30 p.m. The group will move toward the Wisconsin State Capitol where a rally is set for 2 p.m.

Officers will close roads in the area as the crowd marches and then around the Wisconsin State Capitol.

Our team has been working with event organizers and other law enforcement agencies ahead of time on safety plans.

Last June, around 15,000 people attended a "No Kings" rally held in downtown Madison. A picture of the crowd size from that rally is shown below.

In recent weeks, the Madison Police Department has held presentations covering a person's rights during a demonstration or assembly. Another presentation is scheduled for Monday.

Our goal for Saturday is to keep people safe. We ask for patience from our community as we work together to achieve this goal.
