Kuwait’s 1st Journalism Football Championship concludes with the participation of 16 media outlets

  • "Al-Erada" crowned champion and "Trend" runner-up in the tournament's first edition

Kuwait, December 2025:

The First Kuwaiti Journalism Football Championship, sponsored by Warba Bank and the Kuwaiti Electronic Media Union, concluded its two-day tournament held on 11 and 12 December from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dasman Stadium in Sharq with 16 participating press outlets namely: KUNA, Al-Qabas, Al Jarida, Al Rai, Al Seyassah, Al Anba, Annahar, Al Wasat, Al-Erada, Sarmad, Dasman, SNN, Crimes & Courts, Trend, Al Wefaq and Al Nafitha.



On this occasion, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Warba Bank, Mr. Anwar Badr Al Ghaith, stated: "We are pleased to see all these press outlets participating in the first edition of this championship, which represents a new pathway toward organizing major sports tournaments for the press and media sector in Kuwait across various sporting disciplines. Kuwait's press plays a leading role in delivering meaningful messages to society and reporting news professionally and such tournaments provide a recreational outlet that brings journalists and media professionals together, fostering a spirit of cooperation among media institutions while strengthening healthy competition across the sector."



Al-Ghaith added: "It is part of our vision at Warba Bank to support local press in organizing tournaments that leave a positive impact. We indeed saw many talents among our colleagues in the press field and witnessed a fair and honorable tournament among all participating outlets, which today form the backbone of Kuwait's media sector. The tournament also enhanced our exposure to the creative young Kuwaiti media talents, particularly in photography and media coverage."



Concluding his remarks, Al-Ghaith said: "The strong competition among participants sought to promote fair play among teams as sport is not merely a recreational activity; it is a way of life that strengthens social cohesion, reinforces positive values and contributes to achieving sustainable development goals."



On his part, Chairman of the Kuwaiti Electronic Media Union, Mr. Faisal Khalifa Al-Sawagh, highlighted the important of the tournament and emphasized on the spirit of unity between members of Kuwait's media sector, as demonstrated by the presence of a wide range of outlets in a championship held for the first time. He noted the collective commitment of media institutions to ensuring the success of this event and called for maintaining its continuity with sustained support and sponsorship.



Al-Sawagh further said that the Kuwaiti Electronic Media Union is committed to growing the championship to become one of the most prominent tournaments in Kuwait, supported by the shared commitment to its continuity, expansion and the increase in participating teams in future editions.



The championship concluded with Al-Erada being crowned champions after defeating Trend in the final match. Al-Nafitha won the award for the Fair Play Team. Yahya Qasem was named Best Player of the Tournament, Fouad claimed the Top Scorer award, while Ahmed Sheet received the Best Goalkeeper title. KMS Company sponsored the individual awards presented during the tournament.
