Get a Library Card and a New Best Friend

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month at public libraries all across the country. What better time to make certain that the whole family has the smartest card- your library card! With your free public library card, you can access resources for all ages, including:
  • Books in print, including large print formats,
  • downloadable e-books,
  • audiobooks and e-audiobooks,
  • DVDs and music CDs,
  • Online reference databases for research and general information, including magazines and newspapers, genealogy, legal information, demographics, hobbies, language learning and more,
  • Genealogy and Florida history collections, and more
This year, the Marion County Public Library System is partnering with Marion County Animal Services to offer an additional incentive to get your very own library card. During the month of September, every library card holder who wishes to adopt a shelter animal from Marion County Animal Services can do so for free ! Stop by Animal Services, show your library card and go home with a new cat or dog looking for its forever home.

To further support our Marion County Animal Services shelter, all Marion County Public Library System locations will be accepting donations from the public. And for patrons who may have overdue library fines, erase them by donating to the Animal Services shelter. Check with circulation staff at your local library branch for a list of donated items and the monetary equivalent to get rid of those overdue fines.

Need a furry pet alternative or just a unique creative outlet? During the month of September, all new library card holders will also receive a Pet Rock kit, compliments of Kenny's Place Nursery. Enjoy an adventure where rocks take on the visual characteristics of a variety of furry and feathered friends. Display your artwork or share with family and friends.

Stop by any of the nine Marion County Public Library System locations, get your library card and then visit the Marion County Animal Services to select your new furry friend.

For more information, check out the library's website at library.marionfl.org or call 352-671-8551. Stay connected to your public library on Instagram @mcflpubliclibrary and on Facebook @MCPLibrary.
