Meetings of Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis with Mayors of Ambelokipoi - Menemeni, Pavlos Melas, Kordelio - Evosmos, Pylaia - Chortiatis, and Metropolitan of Neapolis and Stavroupolis

As of today, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis is visiting Thessaloniki, in the framework of the celebrations for the 90^th Thessaloniki International Fair.

The Minister has already met with the Mayor of Ambelokipoi - Menemeni and President of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece, Lazaros Kyrizoglou, the mayor of Pavlos Melas Dimitrios Aslanidis, the Mayor of Kordelio - Evosmos Eleftherios Alexandridis, the Mayor of Pylaia - Chortiatis Ignatios Kaitezidis, and His Eminence the Metropolitan of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, Mr. Varnavas, with whom the Ministry of National Defence is cooperating towards the utilisation of non-operationally essential army camps.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence was accompanied by the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Epirus and Macedonia/NRDC-GR, Lieutenant General Grigorios Boudliakis.

Following the conclusion of the meetings, the Deputy Minister of National Defence stated:

"I am yet again in Thessaloniki this year on the occasion of the inauguration of the International Fair.Today I had the opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Pavlos Melas, Dimitris Aslanidis, and we extensively discussed the grant of use of former Army Camp "PAVLOS MELA", as well as the utilisation of Army Camp "KARATASIOS". Responsibly and through close cooperation, we are gradually transforming these historic locations into modern green lungs and centres of cultural development.

Meanwhile, my meeting with the Mayor of Kordelio - Evosmos, Lefteris Alexandridis, focused on putting on schedule the construction of social housing in former Army Camp "ZIAKA", and also granting a section of Army Camp "PAPAKYRIAZI". In this way we are steadily reinforcing local administration, by offering viable solutions, which safeguard social cohesion and markedly upgrade citizens' quality of life.

Finally, I had the opportunity to meet with His Eminence the Metropolitan of Neapolis, Mr. Varnavas, with whom we discussed the timeless contribution of the Armed Forces, and their contribution to covering the housing needs of the Church, especially in the Metropolis of Neapolis".
