Dear UAA Community,
Last week, the Board of Regents approved changes to the University of Alaska tuition structure. As part of our Tuition Transparency project, non-resident tuition (NRT) for all universities and degree types will be eliminated, beginning in fall 2027. Starting in fall 2027, all students will pay the resident tuition rate, creating a simpler, more predictable cost structure and removing long-standing confusion around residency rules.
For UAA, this shift directly supports our strategic plan and our commitment to putting students first. A clearer, more predictable tuition model reduces barriers and improves the student experience, making it easier for students to plan for their education. While we anticipate that UAA will see a small initial decrease in tuition revenue, projected enrollment growth is expected to offset this within three years, with positive gains anticipated by academic year 2030-31.
Tuition transparency also strengthens UAA's ability to recruit and support students. By reducing administrative burden, advisors and student-facing teams can spend more time helping our students succeed.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our students.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Siemers
UAA Chancellor
