Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Ilkhom Nematov will head the CIS Observer Mission for the elections to the State Duma.
His nomination was approved by the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth.
The Mission will monitor the elections at the official invitation of the Russian side. It will include representatives of the CIS Member Nations, as well as representatives of integration organizations operating within the Commonwealth, including a group of international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (Ninth Convocation) will be held from 18 to 20 September. Voters will elect 450 deputies: 225 from single-member constituencies and 225 through party lists.
The Mission's observation will be conducted both on a long-term basis through an assessment of the electoral legislation and the progress of the election campaign and directly during the voting period.
