NMU Orchestra 'Dreams of Home' Concert April 22

The Northern Michigan University Chamber Ensemble and the NMU Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in Reynolds Recital Hall under the direction of Barbara Rhyneer. Admission is free.

The Chamber Ensemble, a string sextet, will open with selections from two Mozart Quintets (No. 2 and No. 9) as well as a Canzon by Giovanni Gabrieli. The NMU Orchestra will feature two works by composer Jean Sibelius, Finlandia and Andante Festivo, along with the last movement of Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony.

Vocal faculty member Keri Lee Pierson will serve as soloist for Goodnight Moon, music written by Eric Whitacre with lyrics from the famous book of the same title.

The program will showcase a range of musical textures, from intimate chamber pieces to full orchestral works.
