Gillibrand Demands An End To Trump's Reckless War With Iran

Mar 5, 2026

Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) held a virtual press conference to discuss President Trump's illegal and reckless war with Iran, which is endangering American troops, jeopardizing national security, and raising costs for New York families.

"The American people want lower costs, not forever wars. By refusing to seek congressional approval for his strikes on Iran, President Trump is breaking the law for a war that the American people don't want," said Senator Gillibrand. "President Trump must end this war immediately and instead focus on lowering costs here at home. . I'm praying for the safety and well-being of our brave service members and American families in the region. I will not stop fighting until this reckless war has ended and until President Trump is held accountable for his actions."

Senator Gillibrand made clear that she will not provide a blank check for President Trump's reckless war. Yesterday, she voted yes on the Senate's war powers resolution to reassert Congress' responsibility, demand accountability, and send a clear message that military force must be debated, justified, and authorized before American lives are put at risk.

Additionally, President Trump admitted this week that his administration didn't have a plan for how to evacuate Americans in the Middle East caught in the crossfire. That failure has left thousands of Americans stranded, fearing for their lives, with no support from their government. This week, Senator Gillibrand demanded that the Trump administration immediately develop and implement a plan to get these Americans home safely. Her letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio can be found here.
