Generative AI is rapidly making its way into the workplace. From writing texts to running analyses, a few prompts are often enough to unlock powerful tools. But how do we ensure that speed and efficiency do not come at the expense of critical thinking? The new GenAI Blind Spots card set aims to help organisations ask exactly those questions.
Generative AI has rapidly made its way into offices, laboratories and meeting rooms. The technology makes work faster and more efficient. Yet that very speed can also hide risks. Anyone using AI without a critical perspective runs the risk of overlooking important ethical questions.
To help organisations address this, the Knowledge Centre Data & Society developed the GenAI Blind Spots card set. The tool aims to encourage teams to pause and reflect on the less visible sides of generative AI and to engage with the technology more consciously.
Each card in the set highlights a potential blind spot. They start from a central question, supplemented with a short explanation, a concrete example and reflection questions. This helps spark conversations about themes such as data quality, shadow use of AI tools, where employees use AI outside the organisation's visibility or policies, and the reliability of AI-generated information.
The cards are organised into four domains: the development of AI applications, their use within organisations, the possible consequences of AI output and the broader impact on organisations and society. The aim is simple: to help teams recognise risks more quickly and respond to them in a thoughtful way.
To develop the card set, the Knowledge Centre combined insights from workshops with experts, input from professionals involved in AI training programmes and scientific literature on the ethical challenges of generative AI.
The GenAI Blind Spots card set can be downloaded for free via the website. Those who prefer working with physical cards can also order the set via the VUB Webshop for €10 per copy. The card set is available in Dutch and English.
