BOZEMAN - This week in St. Louis, the Montana State University club men's hockey team has returned to play on the national stage.
This season is the fifth in a row that the team has qualified to play in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Division 2 national tournament. They traveled to St. Louis, where they will play three pool play games aiming to advance to the semifinal on Monday, March 16. Last year, the Bobcats advanced to the national title game for the first time in club history, losing by a score of 4-1 to Lindenwood University.
MSU enters this year's tournament with the No. 3 seed from the ACHA's west region. In the pool play round, each of the 16 qualified teams play three games to determine who advances to the tournament's Final Four.
All three of MSU's pool play opponents this year are teams they did not play in the regular season, which ran from September through February. The Bobcats' tournament began with a 4-2 loss to Schoolcraft College on March 12; they will continue with games against Niagara University on Friday, March 13, at 7:15 p.m. Mountain Time and against Pennsylvania State University on Saturday, March 14, at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
The full ACHA tournament will be streamed live on FloHockey at flohockey.tv, which requires a subscription.
A schedule of all 24 pool play games with live scores can be found on the ACHA website. Should they advance, the Bobcats will play in the Final Four on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17.
Hockey is not an NCAA sport at MSU; instead, it is a club program. The team holds fundraisers throughout the year to support their long season and started a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise roughly $58,000 for transportation and lodging for the weeklong trip to Missouri.
Up-to-date information, live stats and game results can be found on the ACHA website.
