Press Release: Portugal donates around eight tonnes of medicines to Venezuela's Ministry of Health

Following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June 2026, and as an expression of the cooperation and solidarity between Portugal and Venezuela, the Portuguese Government has organised a donation of medicines to support the country's humanitarian response.

As part of this initiative, the National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (INFARMED, I.P.), the Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Health and Camões - Institute for Cooperation and Language, I.P., in coordination with the associations representing the pharmaceutical industry, invited pharmaceutical companies to assess their availability to contribute medicines.

As a result of this initiative, around eight tonnes of medicines have been collected through donations from Grupo Tecnimede, BIAL, FAES Farma, Menarini and Bluepharma. The consignment will be donated to Venezuela's Ministerio del Poder Popular para la Salud.

The medicines will be transported on board a TAP Air Portugal flight departing from Lisbon on 13 July 2026.

The Secretary of State for Health Management, Francisco Pinheiro Catalão, will accompany the loading operation at 10:00 a.m.

Media representatives wishing to cover the loading operation at the airport should submit their access requests directly to ANA by 8:00 a.m. on 13 July.
