Harms Mill Dam Access Area Reopens to the Public

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has reopened the public access area on the Elk River where the former Harms Mill Dam once stood.

The access area officially reopened on July 9, 2026, after being closed since October of 2025 to allow for the safe removal of the Harms Mill Dam, the associated powerhouse, and the completion of required environmental mitigation.

TWRA is also planning additional improvements to the site. Construction of a boat ramp is expected to begin in late summer or early fall of 2026, enhancing access for sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts using the Elk River.

TWRA appreciates the public's patience during the closure and looks forward to welcoming visitors back to enjoy this restored section of the Elk River.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is responsible for protecting, managing, and conserving fish and wildlife species for the benefit of Tennesseans and visitors. The Agency also maintains public safety through law enforcement and safety education on waterways.
