D.A. Bragg: Isaac Argro Sentenced To 25 Years-To-Life For Fatally Shooting Azsia Johnson In Front Of Their Infant

July 14, 2026

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the sentencing of ISAAC ARGRO, 26, to 25 years-to-life in state prison for fatally shooting 20-year-old Azsia Johnson as she walked with their 3-month-old child on the Upper East Side in June 2022. On May 28, 2026, ARGRO was convicted by a New York State Supreme Court jury of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

"Azsia Johnson was a loving parent who left an abusive relationship and began to rebuild her life. Her dreams of moving forward were brought to a horrific end when her ex, Isaac Argro, executed her in cold blood in front of their infant daughter," said District Attorney Bragg. "While today's prison sentence is a just resolution, there is nothing that can bring back Ms. Johnson. My thoughts today are with her family members, who have demonstrated their love for Ms. Johnson and their commitment to keeping her memory alive throughout the course of this prosecution."

As proven at trial, on June 29, 2022, ARGRO convinced Ms. Johnson to meet him so he could purportedly give her items for their daughter. Before meeting ARGRO, Ms. Johnson sent text messages to a family member describing exactly where she was meeting the defendant and what he was wearing when she saw him, which matched the accounts of 911 callers following the incident.

ARGRO arrived at East 95th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues without any items for the child, dressed in black with a ski mask over his face. ARGRO then shot Ms. Johnson at point-blank range in the head as she pushed their daughter in a stroller uphill before fleeing the scene and discarding his clothing.

Afterward, ARGRO called Ms. Johnson's family and inquired about the whereabouts of his child. He also threatened another individual who knew Ms. Johnson, saying they were "next."

Assistant D.A. Shanda Strain handled the prosecution of this case with Assistant D.A. William Salter under the supervision of Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division) and with the assistance of Trial Preparation Assistant Lou Barber; Analyst Isabel Long, and Investigator John D'Alessio.
