Young Trade Leaders
Students, academics and policymakers came together at an event on 18 June to reflect on a report by the WTO Young Trade Leaders on the future of the WTO and what is needed to better support young people through trade.
The WTO Young Trade Leaders outlined the findings and recommendations of their comprehensive report to a very large audience. They also engaged in constructive dialogue with a high-level panel of WTO members - including the Chair of the General Council H.E. Clare Kelly and the Chair of the Committee on Trade and Development H.E. Elmer Schialer Salcedo - and senior trade experts.
The WTO Young Trade Leaders highlighted some of their key activities over the past year during a meeting with the Director-General. DG Okonjo-Iweala encouraged the group to continue to extend their trade expertise and to further advocate for a multilateral trading system that supports the needs and interests of people.
The meeting capped a full week of activities in Geneva for the group, made possible with the support of FES. Their programme included presentations on various aspects of world trade by senior WTO officials and other international experts, at both the WTO's headquarters and the FES offices in Geneva.
The WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme aims to foster a better understanding of the WTO's work and international trade among young people around the world. The third cohort of WTO Young Trade Leaders will be announced on 1 July.
