Statement from DNC Chair Ken Martin on the Firing of Pam Bondi as Attorney General Arrow

Donald Trump announced today that he is firing his Attorney General Pam Bondi, after Bondi reportedly begged Trump not to. Bondi's abrupt exit is the second firing of a cabinet secretary in a month, and the latest embarrassment for the Trump administration amid historically low approval ratings for the president. Bondi's 13-month term is the shortest of any confirmed attorney general in 50 years.

Throughout her tenure at the Department of Justice, Bondi undermined the independence of the DOJ at the behest of Trump, refused to release the full Epstein Files, pursued politically motivated investigations into Trump's perceived enemies, and attempted to undermine our democracy by subverting free and fair elections.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Pam Bondi's tenure as attorney general is the shortest in half a century, but the history books will remember her for blindly following the President's orders even when it meant breaking the law, subverting our democracy, and protecting pedophiles. Trump is suffering another humiliation he can't afford as his economy is in a tailspin, his approval ratings are in the gutter, and his deadly and unpopular war in Iran splinters his fracturing coalition."

At the direction of Trump, Bondi denied justice and accountability to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's crimes and dismissed Americans' demands for transparency by severely mishandling the Epstein Files. Currently, 2.5 million documents in the files have not been publicly released, and many of the 3.5 million pages that have been published are heavily redacted.

Bondi pledged that "No one will be prosecuted, investigated because they are a political opponent." Yet, her term was tainted by numerous baseless investigations into Trump's political opponents, including several Democratic members of Congress, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and, most recently, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and former CNN journalist Don Lemon.

Bondi has also sought to undermine free and fair elections, demanding that nearly every state hand over its voter rolls and election-related data - and, in turn, suing more than 20 states that refused to comply. Even after two American citizens were killed at the hands of federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, Bondi attempted to tie the "chaos" in Minnesota to the state's refusal to turn over its voter rolls.
