LSU and U.S. Army Cyber Command Partner to Develop Technology, Talent to Secure Louisiana, Nation

University strengths in cybersecurity, research, critical infrastructure and design position researchers and students to support Army projects and priorities.

LSU and U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) have entered into a formal agreement on advanced research, prototype development, education and training, and technology transfer to build cyber capabilities for the Army under U.S. Cyber Command.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - LSU and U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) have entered into a formal agreement on advanced research, prototype development, education and training, and technology transfer to build cyber capabilities for the Army under U.S. Cyber Command. The education partnership agreement (EPA) establishes areas of collaboration and joint research and development from cybersecurity to critical infrastructure to data visualization.

The partnership with LSU will be led by ARCYBER's Cyber Technology and Innovation Center (ArCTIC), an Army Technology Transfer Program-approved laboratory responsible for research and capability development. ArCTIC operates ARCYBER's innovation hub at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.

The partnership will engage LSU researchers and students, as well as enhance LSU's cyber-physical environments for critical infrastructure security.

The agreement includes:

  • Shared access to university and command facilities.
  • Lab enhancements with defense research equipment.
  • ARCYBER personnel to support science and technology courses and research.
  • Researcher, faculty, and student participation in defense projects.
  • Development of intellectual property and technology.
  • Joint pursuit of critical defense research initiatives.

"LSU's proud military legacy is core to our identity as an institution," LSU President Wade Rousse said. "The partnership with U.S. Army Cyber Command underscores our research excellence, and more importantly, offers our students and researchers an incredible opportunity to translate their technical knowledge into real-world results. We're honored to work with the Army to secure our state and nation."

"This partnership with LSU demonstrates our dedication to uniting diverse talent, innovative ideas and advanced research to enhance the Army's cyber readiness," Lt. Gen. Christopher Eubank, commanding general of U.S. Army Cyber Command, said. "By collaborating directly with LSU's students, faculty and researchers, we are fostering relationships that will drive innovation and equip the next generation of cyber leaders. Collectively, we are contributing to a more secure future for both Louisiana and the nation."

The partnership builds upon LSU's 2022 designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) by the National Security Agency. The designation is the agency's most technical, focused on memory forensics, digital forensics, malware analysis and reverse engineering-all necessary tools in understanding and preventing cyberattacks on defense and industry. The ARCYBER effort is the latest in a growing portfolio of LSU cyber research and talent collaborations with national labs, security agencies, defense and intelligence communities and industry.

The ARCYBER and LSU research partnership originated from shared work on critical infrastructure; particularly industrial control systems (ICS). LSU is incorporating cybersecurity assets into its industry-scale research facilities, offering nationally unique lab environments where advanced cyberattacks against real assets can be identified, experienced and solved.

About ARCYBER

U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) serves as the Army component of U.S. Cyber Command and is the U.S. military's leading data-centric force. ARCYBER is responsible for operating and defending Army networks, delivering cyberspace effects against adversaries to protect national security, and providing Army and Joint Force Commanders with an information advantage in highly contested operational environments. With its headquarters at Fort Gordon, Ga., ARCYBER oversees the Network Enterprise Technology Command at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., and manages five regional cyber centers located in Arizona, Hawaii, Germany, Korea, and Kuwait. Over 16,000 soldiers, civilians and contractors work continuously worldwide to support ARCYBER's mission.

Founded in 1860 as a military academy, Louisiana State University (LSU) is one of only a handful of universities in the United States designated as land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institutions. The state's flagship university, LSU is ranked as an R1 "very high research activity" institution by the Carnegie Foundation, with research in over 330 academic disciplines. Cybersecurity and defense are LSU priorities and reflect the university's legacy of service.

Educational partnership agreements do not constitute official endorsement by the Department of War, U.S. Army, or ARCYBER.
