Supervisors Speier and Gauthier Wrap Up Child Care Listening Tour on the San Mateo County Coastside

November 14, 2025

Redwood City- Supervisors Jackie Speier and Lisa Gauthier will complete their listening tour on the child care crisis in San Mateo on November 19 at the Half Moon Bay Library. Parents, guardians, child care providers and other stakeholders are invited to the fourth and last town hall to share their experiences directly with the Supervisors.

"Hosting child care town halls in South San Francisco, East Palo Alto and San Mateo has been an eye-opening experience. The Coastside has a particular shortage of child care providers making it even more difficult for parents there to find spaces for their children," Supervisor Speier said. "We are looking forward to hearing from them directly about dealing with those exacerbated challenges. We are also hoping to hear from the few providers who do have child care homes or centers on the coast."

"I want any parent or provider who has not had the opportunity to come speak at Supervisor Speier and my final town hall on child care. Our Coastside community faces unique challenges and I'm glad we're able to engage with them directly on this topic. Affordable child care is and continues to be one of the most challenging issues facing our region, especially with the most recent cuts in federal spending," Supervisor Gauthier said.

The town hall will be child-friendly with a kids' corner for children aged 1 year and older. Translation services will be available in Spanish.
