The Department of Physiology Fall Seminar Series continues weekly on Thursdays!
Please join us this week on August 28 in welcoming Liya Yin, MD, PhD - Professor, Internal Medicine, Translational Cardiovascular Research Center, University of Arizona College of Medicine - as she presents her seminar titled:
"Regulation of Coronary Microcirculation in Cardiovascular Diseases"
3:30 - 5:00 pm at the Cancer Research Building Auditorium, Room 114.
Refreshments will be provided.
Hosted by Dr. Zhongjie Sun and Dr. Junwang Xu
Summary:
Dr. Yin will talk about two aspects of coronary circulation, one is the mechanism of coronary microvascular dysfunction and its impact on related diseases (INOCA, HFpEF, and Diabetic Cardiomyopathy), and the other is the regulation of coronary collateral growth and how to promote coronary collateral growth to prevent myocardial ischemia injury in diabetes.
Brief Bio:
Dr. Liya Yin is a tenured Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine, Phoenix. Before joining UA, she was a tenured Professor in the Department of Integrative Medical Science and Director of the Heart and Blood Vessel Diseases Research Focus Area at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). She got her MD/PhD degrees from Wuhan University. She did her postdoc training at West Virginia University and the University of California in San Francisco. She was a research faculty member at UCLA before she joined NEOMED in 2009.
Dr. Yin's research focuses on the induction of coronary collateral growth in ischemic heart diseases, the regulation of coronary circulation in diabetes and HFpEF, and stem cell and cardiovascular regeneration. Her lab published papers on Circulation Research, American Journal of Physiology (AJP)-heart and circ, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology (JMCC), and Basic Research in Cardiology.
Dr. Yin's research has been funded by the National Institute of Health and the American Heart Association (AHA). She serves as a chartered member of the NIH study sections and AHA peer review committees.
Dr. Yin is a Fellow of AHA and a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section of the American Physiological Society (APS). She serves as an Associate Editor of JMCC, Pharmacology & Therapeutics. She is also on the editorial board of Circulation Research, AJP-heart and circ, Basic Research in Cardiology, and the International Journal of Cardiology.
Dr. Yin is actively engaged in teaching in medical school and graduate school, and she is passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists, from undergraduate to graduate students and postdocs.
