Capito, Justice Announce $2 Million in Research Funding for WVU

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Senator Jim Justice (R-W.Va.), announced $2,200,000 for West Virginia University (WVU) through the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The funding will specifically be used to support WVU's BioNano and Chemistry Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Research Facilities by modernizing the molecular characterization capabilities that will enable cutting-edge research involving both early career and senior faculty and their students.

"For years, I have emphasized WVU's outstanding research efforts within our state," Senator Capito said. "I am proud to help secure this funding through the appropriations process to support WVU's research facilities which will enhance research capabilities and training opportunities for students. I appreciate the faculty, students, and staff at WVU for their outstanding work that will benefit West Virginia and states across the country."

"Bringing these federal dollars back home for important West Virginia projects is one of my absolute favorite parts of serving in Washington. WVU is on a real roll right now, and this $2.2 million investment is going to put state-of-the-art tools right into the hands of our talented students and researchers. I'm proud to support our Mountaineers as they keep moving our state forward," Senator Jim Justice said.
