MCLEAN, Va. - The National Park Service will begin lane closures from the northbound and southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway exits to the Turkey Run Loop Road on April 6, 2026. Detours will be in place to access to Turkey Run Loop Road.
Closures are needed to upgrade roadside drainage and improve stormwater flow, helping protect the roadway and improve safety. These upgrades will strengthen the parkway's infrastructure, reduce the risk of future roadway damage, and support a safer, more reliable travel experience.
Work is expected to begin April 6 and continue through mid-May, weather permitting. Lanes will be closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crews will work on the outer loop first and once complete, proceed to work on the inner loop.
