Governor Signs House Bill 10 into Law, Aligning Ohio Pesticide Rules with Federal Standards

Governor Mike DeWine has signed House Bill 10 into law, marking an important step forward in providing regulatory clarity for who may apply certain crop protection products in Ohio. The legislation received overwhelming bipartisan support in the Ohio General Assembly and corrects an unintended change to Ohio's pesticide regulations that occurred during the state budget process earlier this year.

A key provision of H.B. 10 restores the supervisory exemption, allowing non-certified individuals to apply restricted-use pesticides while working under the direct supervision of a certified applicator. This change brings Ohio's pesticide regulations back into alignment with federal law, ensuring consistency and clarity for agricultural producers and applicators statewide.

House Bill 10 passed the Ohio House of Representatives by a 92-0 vote and the Senate by a 33-0 vote. The law will take effect 90 days following the Governor's signature.

OABA will continue collaborating with the Ohio Department of Agriculture throughout the rulemaking process to help ensure effective implementation that supports the needs of Ohio's agribusiness sector.
