A123 Systems Collaborates with Dukosi and Nuvation Energy to Advance BESS Integration for the North American Market

A123 Systems is proud to collaborate with Dukosi and Nuvation Energy on a proof-of-concept battery energy storage system reference platform designed to support the growing North American energy storage market.

The collaboration brings together A123's high-capacity lithium iron phosphate cell technology, Dukosi's chip-on-cell monitoring system with C-SynQ® communications, and Nuvation Energy's battery management system design. Together, the companies are demonstrating how cell technology, cell-level monitoring, BMS design, and system integration can work together to support safer, more reliable, and more serviceable BESS architectures.

As energy storage applications continue to expand across grid modernization, renewable energy integration, commercial backup power, and data center infrastructure, customers need solutions that are scalable, dependable, and designed for long-term operational performance. This proof-of-concept platform highlights how collaboration across the battery value chain can help address those needs.

Supporting Demanding Energy Storage Applications

Battery energy storage systems are playing an increasingly important role in modern energy infrastructure. From utility-scale storage and commercial energy resilience to renewable integration and data center backup power, BESS deployments require advanced battery technologies supported by accurate monitoring, robust controls, and strong system-level integration.

The proof-of-concept platform is designed around a 1P13S module configuration commonly used in battery energy storage applications. The platform demonstrates how A123's high-capacity LFP cell technology can be integrated with Dukosi's cell monitoring technology and Nuvation Energy's BMS design to support demanding BESS use cases.

Dukosi's Cell Monitoring System (DKCMS®) places a Cell Monitor on each cell to capture voltage and temperature data and communicates through its proprietary C-SynQ® protocol. Nuvation Energy's BMS design contributes the control electronics needed to manage system safety, performance, and operational visibility. By combining these capabilities with A123's high-capacity LFP cell technology, the collaboration demonstrates how the cell, monitoring, and control layers can work together within a scalable BESS reference architecture.
