LAS 36048 - Permit application for placement of two tidal research devices within the waters of Isanotski Strait

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
LAS 36048
OCEAN RENEWABLE POWER COMPANY, INC.

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southcentral Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: OCEAN RENEWABLE POWER COMPANY, INC.

PROJECT NAME: LAS 36048

ENCLOSED DOCUMENTS: Application, Project Description (with map)

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The proposed permit location consists of two sites within the submerged lands of Isanotski Strait between Bechevin Bay and Ikatan Bay, near the community of False Pass.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: The two proposed sites would be within:

Sections 26-28, 33-35, Township 62 South, Range 94 West, Seward Meridian

Sections 2-3, 10-11, 13-14, Township 61 South, Range 94 West, Seward Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Applicant Ocean Renewable Power Company, Inc. (ORPC), is requesting a one-year land use permit for the temporary installation of two Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) devices anchored to state submerged lands at two sites within Isanotski Strait during the summer of 2026 (June - October). The ADCP devices would be used in support of researching tidal flows and determining a location for deployment of a future hydrokinetic device in the area. While the devices will be deployed within the Isanotski Strait, ORPC will determine the exact locations after surveying the area and will provide the coordinates to DNR once selected. The bottom-mounted ADCP devices consist of a gravity-based anchor, the device itself, and an attached mooring line with a high-visibility buoy. Each device will be deployed at a single location for a full tidal cycle (approximately 35 days) and all equipment and buoys would be removed at the end of each tidal cycle. (See project description for more detailed information.)
