Department updates residents on Eglinton and Drumahoe flood alleviation measures

Date published: 12 October 2025

Officials from the Department for Infrastructure have reaffirmed the Department's commitment to progressing viable flood alleviation proposals for the Eglinton and Drumahoe areas.

At a public meeting facilitated by Derry City & Strabane District Council, Departmental officials updated residents from the Ivy Mead, Drumahoe and Eglinton areas who have been affected by flooding and reassured them of the Department's commitment to delivering viable practical solutions.

The Department welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with local residents and businesses to update on the latest position regarding potential flood alleviation proposals. Feasibility studies have identified viable solutions, and the next stage in the process is to develop a business case to determine if preferred options will be economically feasible.

In the interim, targeted watercourse maintenance continues to be delivered, alongside emergency support when required, in conjunction with our multi agency partners. Community engagement also remains a central part of the Department's approach to managing flood risk through the work of the local Regional Community Resilience Groups (RCRG). This brings together local businesses, the Council, and government agencies to strengthen preparedness to severe weather events.
