Male arrested after riding moped with three people on board

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after officers on proactive patrol spotted a scooter in Whiston with three males on board on Thursday (6 August).

The officers spotted the moped, which had no registration plate, on Pennywood, Whiston. None of the three riders were wearing helmets.

The officers, working with the drone team, located the males and the vehicle in a garden in Rainhill a short time later and they were detained.

A 14-year-old male from Rainhill was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Knowsley BCU Commander Superintendent Paul Holden said: "I hope this incident demonstrates our determination to keep our communities safe by disrupting anyone whose behaviour risks making people feel frightened and intimidated.

"Ultimately, anyone who gets on a motorbike or moped without a helmet is not only breaking the law, they are risking their own safety.

"When they ride at speed, on pavements and through red lights they also risk the safety and even lives of other people.

"We know from speaking to law-abiding members of our community that they have concerns over this type of behaviour. People are fed up with being intimidated by males riding e-bikes or scrambler bikes in a dangerous and anti-social manner and we are determined to remove these people from our streets.
