President Boakai Mourns the Passing of Liberia’s Grand Mufti

President Boakai extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the National Muslim Council of Liberia, and Muslims across the country following the announcement that Dr. Kanneh passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The President paid tribute to the late Grand Mufti's distinguished life of service, noting that Dr. Kanneh dedicated decades to advancing Islamic education, fostering religious harmony, and promoting peace, unity, tolerance, and justice throughout Liberia and beyond. He recognized the late Islamic scholar as a respected spiritual leader whose wisdom and guidance positively influenced generations of Liberian Muslims.

President Boakai also acknowledged Dr. Kanneh's remarkable academic accomplishments and his many years of service in national and international Islamic institutions, including his role as Grand Mufti of the Republic of Liberia. The President said the late Grand Mufti's legacy of faith, scholarship, humility, and national service will remain an enduring source of inspiration.

On behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, President Boakai prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the late Grand Mufti eternal peace and admit him into Jannatul Firdaus.

The Liberian Leader further prayed that Allah grant strength, comfort, and patience to his family, the Muslim Ummah, and all those mourning this great loss.

President Boakai encouraged all Liberians to remember and celebrate the life of Dr. Kanneh by embracing the values of peace, tolerance, mutual respect, and national unity that he faithfully championed throughout his lifetime.
