IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 6, 2025 Chairwoman Amy Barela's statement on Chaco Canyon Albuquerque, NM - The Republican Party of New Mexico stands with the Navajo Nation allottees and their right to pursue responsible economic development on their lands. We believe that tribal families deserve the opportunity to benefit from the natural resources entrusted to them-without unnecessary federal overreach that limits self-determination and prosperity. We also recognize and deeply respect the cultural and spiritual significance of Chaco Canyon to the Pueblo nations and all Native peoples of New Mexico. Preservation of these sacred sites is essential, and it can coexist with energy development that respects both the land and the people who call it home. The Trump Administration's approach to energy policy reflects a balance between protecting cultural heritage and empowering Native communities to achieve economic independence.
