New Brunswick Says ‘Drive Smart, Drive Safe’ with Year-Long Campaign

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 6, 2025) - City police are launching a year-long traffic safety campaign to make the roads even safer. The department will focus on educating the community and further enforcing traffic laws related to pedestrian safety, distracted driving, impaired driving, and speeding.This high-visibility campaign is funded by a $77,000 grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Data shows that distracted driving, including texting or talking on the phone, is a major factor in crashes. Additional enforcement and educational initiatives will focus on pedestrian safety, speeding, and seatbelt violations.In the past five years, there have been 6,048 reported crashes in the City. Police continually urge drivers to put down their phones and focus on safe driving.Officers will also continue to target impaired drivers, who pose a serious threat to others on the road.
