PRESS STATEMENT 059

Spain condemns breakdown of ceasefire in Middle East and calls for de-escalation

Spain condemns the breakdown of the ceasefire in the Middle East and urges the parties to respect it, without resorting once again to violence that endangers the population and critical civilian infrastructure, and destabilises the region.

Today
The Government reiterates that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to resolve the region's problems. An immediate de-escalation is necessary to reach a negotiated solution that brings this conflict to an end and allows progress towards lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

The international community must assume its responsibility to restore stability, as well as respect for international law and the sovereignty and integrity of States.
