Bennet Continues Fight to Stop Trump’s Wars with Two Disapproval Votes

Apr 16, 2026 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. - Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement after voting for two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to restrict certain arms sales to Israel.

Bennet has consistently opposed President Trump's reckless military interventions, voting against the annual defense bill and defense appropriations, supporting War Powers resolutions on Iran and Venezuela, and committing to oppose any new supplemental funding for the Iran war.

"Last year, I voted against the National Defense Authorization Act for the first time because I refused to rubber-stamp President Trump and Secretary Hegseth's lawless Department of Defense. For the same reason, I subsequently voted against funding the Pentagon. I also voted for a number of War Powers Resolutions, including earlier today, aimed at ending Trump's Iran war and his operations in Venezuela.

"I have made clear that I will not vote to provide a single cent to support Trump's war with Iran. In this case, that means opposing the sale of weapons that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu would use to prosecute a regional war he launched with Trump. That is why I voted today for two resolutions that would block the sale of certain bombs and bulldozers to Israel.

"President Trump is profoundly out of control, and Congress must do everything possible to rein him in. He has unleashed U.S. troops into American cities, carried out unlawful strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific, launched unlawful operations in Venezuela, and now, alongside Netanyahu, is waging a dangerous and unlawful war with Iran without clear justifications or a strategy for success.

"Americans are paying the price. At least 13 U.S. servicemembers have died, while over 380 have been injured. Gas prices are up over 30 percent in Colorado. Iran's hardline regime remains in power and maintains its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz, of which Iran took control only after Trump started this war. Russia is cashing in from high oil prices, while China is gaining ground as we shift our focus away from Asia. The world is more unstable, not less.

"Throughout my career, I have fought to ensure that Israel has the capacity to defend itself from the myriad threats it faces from Iran and its proxies. I remain committed to that. My votes today reflect my belief that Trump and Netanyahu must end a war that is undermining U.S. national security. Our servicemembers and our country deserve better."

In December 2025, Bennet voted against the National Defense Authorization Act. In January 2026, he voted against the appropriations package that included funding for the Department of Defense. Since President Trump took office, Bennet has voted for several War Powers Resolutions, including one earlier today, to block Trump's use of the U.S. military to engage in hostilities in Iran, Venezuela, and the Caribbean Sea.
