Kyle Gordon Gets Joyously Morbid On “If You Break Up With Me”

Ahead of the October 2nd release of Kyle Gordon's new album ' Kyle Gordon Is Everywhere ' (via BMG), today, music's leading comedy chameleon goes back to the late 90s with his latest track "If You Break Up With Me". Through a hilariously on-point creative alter ego, the angsty-yet-radio-friendly band 10 Year Plan, helmed by a transparently toxic lead singer, "If You Break Up With Me" explodes as a joyously morbid and accurately delivered satire on that special brand of radio rock that packaged dark & shocking lyrics within bubbly melodies and catchy hooks throughout the end of the 20th century.

"This song taps into all the amazing radio friendly pop oriented alt rock of my early youth," said Kyle about the track. "The crux of the parody rests on the contrast between the bright, shiny, catchy production of much of this music, but paired with 90's rock dude dark lyrics. The most notable example being Semi-Charmed Life, which, if you didn't know, is explicitly about the horrors of meth addiction."

"If You Break Up With Me" is the third release to arrive from Kyle Gordon's forthcoming album, following his viral smashes " Mr. Jambo " (his spot-on loving parody of Paul Simon's 'Graceland') and " I'm a Whore " (a vulgar and hilarious take on early '10s indie sleaze brat pop).

Elsewhere on 'Kyle Gordon is Everywhere', the "unshakably committed" (Billboard) musician and comedian channels numerous personas and distills nearly a dozen genres, rebuilding them as eerily accurate parodies that are earnestly performed and hilariously irreverent. Everything from jingoistic Bush-era butt rock to Disney Channel-era tween bops gets a shakedown from Kyle Gordon on the new album.

The album (which features David Attenborough-esque academic interludes narrated by Daniel Radcliffe - a fan of Kyle's who he met on the set of "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins") is a nostalgic trip lined with comedic landmines that are as charming as they are gut-busting in their authenticity.
