Emerging Leaders’ Programme 2026: Call for Applications

Apply for the Emerging Leaders' Programme 2026 - an exciting opportunity for future leaders from across the UK's government, political and civil society sectors to gain a first hand introduction to the inner workings and values of the European Union.

Programme Overview:

The Emerging Leaders' Programme is an exciting initiative designed to engage the United Kingdom's future leaders and introduce them to the inner workings and values of the European Union.

Application deadline April 12th

This targeted programme built around a five-day fully funded study visit to Brussels aims to foster enduring connections and deepen understanding between UK-based early career professionals and EU institutions.

Programme Objectives:

  • Familiarise participants with EU institutions, policies across all sectors, and its role in global affairs.
  • Facilitate cross-sectoral engagement among UK leaders and EU officials.
  • Strengthen ties and mutual understanding between the EU and UK.

Duration:

The programme will take place from 22 to 26 June 2026, encompassing a comprehensive five-day study visit to the EU institutions in Brussels. Travel and accommodation covered.

Who's this for?

We invite applications from dynamic young professionals across diverse sectors, including government, political parties, and civil society. We seek a diverse cohort reflecting a range of gender, political viewpoints, and ethnic backgrounds from all regions of the UK.

Is there an age limit?

Candidates aged between 20 and 35 are encouraged to apply. Flexibility may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Content of the Programme: Participants will engage in:

  • Meetings with EU officials and thought leaders.
  • Roundtable discussions addressing key EU-UK collaborative areas.
  • Networking sessions aimed at building professional connections.
  • Comprehensive briefings on EU institutions and UK-EU relations.

What's Included:

  • Your travel arrangements (flights/trains to Brussels and local transportation in Brussels).
  • Accommodation with breakfast and organised lunches and dinner for the duration of the study visit.
  • A curated programme itinerary detailing visits, discussions, and engagements.
  • Pre-visit in-person briefing and materials including briefing documents and background readings.

    and include the following two documents:

    • Your Cover Letter or Statement of Intent using the following template [Application form]
    • Your CV as a PDF
    • In your cover letter, please include the following:
      • Your full name;
      • Current job title and organisation;
      • In maximum 200 words, please briefly describe your current role, your main professional responsibilities, as well as how your work relates to the broader EU-UK context.
      • Finally, in maximum 100 words per topic, please describe 2-3 specific topics or areas you would like to explore during the study visit to Brussels, and how these connect to your current work. Although the entire group will follow the same programme, your input may help tailor the programme to your interests.
