Every ten years, the City's Charter requires the appointment of a Charter Review Commission to review the Charter and recommend changes. While the next regular review would occur later in the decade, the Governing Body decided an earlier review was needed.
On September 24, 2025, the Governing Body approved Resolution 2025-29 to reconvene the Charter Review Commission ahead of the ten-year schedule. The Commission will review the duties and powers of the Mayor and City Councilors outlined in the Charter, along with any related proposals submitted by the Governing Body or the public. The review will focus on how powers are divided and balanced between the Mayor and City Councilors.
The Commission's recommendations will be presented to the Governing Body no later than April 1, 2027, for consideration during the November 2027 Regular Local Election.
