Our primary goal is to achieve a just and lasting peace, providing reliable guarantees for the security of Ukraine, the President of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan said at the second Parliamentary Summit in Bucha, Ukraine. The forum is organized by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and is attended by heads of parliaments of EU countries, Moldova, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as representatives of the European Parliament and the parliamentary assemblies of NATO and the OSCE.
The President of Parliament made a statement during the first session of the meeting. This war must end with a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on international law, Raya Nazaryan said, adding that efforts must begin now to support Ukraine's post-war reconstruction and help the Ukrainian people build a modern and competitive economy.
Bulgaria supports the initiative to restore the railway connectivity between Bulgaria and Ukraine, the President of the National Assembly pointed out. We are making good progress on the expansion of the Vertical Gas Corridor, which will also supply Ukraine and improve its energy security in the next heating season, Raya Nazaryan added.
Bulgaria stands with you not only in these difficult times; we share common dreams for the future, and we will make them a reality together, the President of the National Assembly addressed the Ukrainian parliamentarians.
Bucha is a place for humble silence in memory of the victims, but also a place where we can give voice to our anger at the brutality and inhumanity, Raya Nazaryan said. We will never forget the killing of innocent civilians, which was carried out in violation of all international norms of humanitarian law, she stressed.
Today, the faces in the portraits of the victims compel us to declare our support for the need for robust international mechanisms to ensure accountability, the President of the National Assembly noted. The fight against impunity remains an indispensable cornerstone of any reliable and viable peace agreement, Raya Nazaryan added.
The President of the National Assembly stated that Bulgaria's support for Ukraine remains unwavering. Raya Nazarian noted that the Bulgarian Parliament had adopted seven separate decisions related to providing aid and support to Ukraine and its people.
